KING POST

King Post Walling: A Cost-Effective Retaining Wall Solution
King Post Walls are a versatile and economical method for constructing retaining walls, designed for ease of installation and adaptability to various project requirements. The process begins with drilling holes using methods suited to site conditions, such as auger drilling or temporary casing systems. Once the boreholes are prepared, they are filled with either concrete or grout, depending on the specific project needs, and robust H-section steel beams are installed to form the king posts.

The king posts are positioned at regular intervals—typically between 1 and 3 metres—along the proposed retaining wall line. These isolated steel columns provide the structural framework for the wall. The spaces between the posts are then filled over the retained height using a variety of infill materials, such as durable precast concrete panels or cost-effective treated timber.

King Post Walls are ideal for stabilising excavations, supporting slopes, and constructing retaining structures in applications like road and rail projects. Their modular design allows for rapid installation and easy customisation, providing a reliable and practical solution for challenging geotechnical conditions.

CONTIG WALL

Contiguous piled walls are constructed using rotary bored  or Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) techniques, with small gaps between adjacent reinforced concrete piles. This versatile retaining wall system is widely used across engineering and construction projects, including road and rail underpasses, underground shafts and tanks, cut-and-cover tunnels, portals, and basements.

These walls are particularly suited for dry and cohesive soils and are often the fastest and most cost-effective solution for retaining wall construction. In certain ground conditions, additional lateral support may be required; this is achieved through the incorporation of temporary  props or ground anchors as part of the wall’s design.
